JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Buoys from Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville Buoy Depot here are loaded on to trucks to head to St. Petersburg, Fla., where they will be shipped to the affected by the hurricane Katrina. The Jacksonville Buoy Depot has shipped over 229,000 pounds of buoys, chain and sinkers to help restore aids, which is a critical step in the process of opening waterways and seaports to vessel traffic. The Jacksonville Aids to Navigation Team will also be send three personnel and one boat as part of the Seventh District’s Aids to Navigation Task Force to help repair those aids damaged or missing due to the hurricane. The Aids to Navigation Task Force is comprised of 21 personnel from Aids to Navigation Teams from St. Petersburg, Jacksonville, Tybee Island, Ga., and Charleston, S.C. The Task Force will be bring with them, six trailerable aids-to-navigation boats, five RVs, and as much aids to navigation equipment as they can pack into their vehicles. -
