Coast Guard searching for missing boater

BOSTON - The Coast Guard is searching for a missing person after a boat with four people aboard began taking on water near the mouth of the Merrimack River Wednesday.

Coast Guard Sector Boston received a Mayday call from the vessel at 10 p.m., and launched two 47-foot motor life boats and a 25-foot response boat from Station Merrimack River, and a Jayhawk rescue helicopter from Air Station Cape Cod.

The four boaters abandoned their vessel and swam toward a nearby jetty. Two of them reached the jetty, and a Coast Guard life boat crew recovered a third person.

Two of the three people rescued are receiving medical attention. Their conditions are unknown.

“We are continuing the search for the fourth person,” said Lt. j.g. Jeff Young, command duty officer at Coast Guard Sector Boston. “The area is being saturated with local and Coast Guard assets and every effort is being made to bring them home safe."
