BOSTON - The Coast Guard safely towed a University of Rhode Island research vessel with two people aboard into port after it lost power east of Point Judith, R.I., about 10:30 a.m., today.

Personnel aboard the 50-foot vessel Cap'n Bert, homeported in Wickford, R.I., used onboard quahog dredges to slow the boat's drift rate as a 47-foot motor lifeboat from Coast Guard Station Point Judith headed out to assist.

The 47-footer towed Cap'n Bert in 30-knot winds and six-foot swells through Rhode Island Sound and into Port of Galilee, where it safely moored.
