Coast Guard Medevacs 51-Year-Old Man

NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. - A Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, Fla. aircrew medically evacuated a 51-year-old man from a fishing vessel 40 miles west of New Port Richie, Fla., at about 10 a.m. Friday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg, Fla., received a call from the 36-foot fishing vessel, Scoby Two, homeported in New Port Richie, at about 8:15 a.m., reporting a crewmember with a head injury and severe bleeding.

Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater launched an HH-60 rescue helicopter and a 47-foot motor life boat crew from Coast Guard Station Sand Key, in Clearwater, Fla.  The man was safely hoisted by the rescue helicopter crew about 10 a.m. 

He was transferred to Tampa General Hospital, in Tampa, Fla., and his condition is unknown.

His name is being withheld due to next-of-kin notification.
