During the filming of their new feature length action film, "The Guardian," Costner and Kutcher gained a thorough respect for Coast Guard operations and personnel and requested to visit units throughout the U.S. to show their appreciation.

"Next time you see them, just say thanks guy or girl," said Costner. " I know I feel better knowing that if I, or my family were in trouble the Coast Guard would be there for us."

While at the air station, the two actors met, took pictures with and signed autographs for members of units throughout South Florida who were recognized as outstanding performers.

"I'm really honored my command picked me to meet them," said Petty Officer 2nd Class Renee Grix of Sector Miami. "They were really nice and down to earth."

In the movie, Costner plays an aging rescue swimmer who tries to overcome the loss of his helicopter crew during a rescue in the Bering Sea. Kutcher plays the part of an aviation survival technician school student struggling to tame his own demons while looking to Costner as a mentor.

"I'm from Iowa and there is not a lot of water there," said Kutcher. "All I knew about the Coast Guard before the movie was they were the ones coming to ruin the party, but after making the movie, I have a whole new respect for what they do."

"Coordinating the event took a good amount of planning and coordination but we truly appreciate the fact that Mr. Costner and Mr. Kutcher took the time to visit with all of us in South Florida," said Lt. Lahcen Armstrong, public affairs officer at Air Station Miami.
